I've been driving with a bioptic lens for about 20 years. Unfortunately, the last time I had to renew my license, I did not pass the driving test. I have really fragile corneas and never drive with the windows open, but the DMV examiner insisted on having the windoews open. That caused my bandage contact lenses to dry out, gave me pain, reduced my acuity and hindered my performance. After a bunch of hearings and such, I got another chance at a driving test. While I generally pass these, I made a mistake on this one (turned left when someone was in the corsswalk, though they were in no danger from me), and was a bit too cautious at a couple of stop signs on residentail streets. Now I have a hearing to discuss my unsatisfactory test. I'm 40-something and live in California. Losing my license would be catastrophic for working (currently unemployed but when I do work, I'm in software development). Can anyone suggest an approach to take with the DMV that would likely get them to grant me a license renewal anyway? I messed up on the test but my driving record is just fine--no accients and no tickets for years. My family needs me to drive. Thanks. Ken
