I am a 30-year-old man who, like you, lost an eye due to trauma just a few months ago. I understand your frustration with lack of work -- I have not yet been released to work by my doctors due to numerous surgeries and complications. As far as driving goes, I have already gotten back behind the wheel. After starting out slowly, allowing myself to adapt to monocular vision, I now regularly drive 60 miles to doctor appointments through rush-hour traffic. It can be done and you are legally eligible for a driver's license if you follow your states guidelines. Age 26 is a little late to learn to drive, but I assume you're a city dweller who uses public transportation. As far as a driving school goes, I would say save your money and find a friend with a car who will take you out to Long Island or some other semi-rural area for the day and teach you to drive. Some schools may even balk at taking on a one-eyed student. Of course, you should first obtain the proper learner's permit, if required by your state. Good luck.
