Hello Blake, I read your story and it is very similar to what I have gone through....
Let me tell you that I have macular degeneration with 20/140 and with corrected lenses 20/40.
I was convinced in my early teen years that I would not be able to drive. Until my doc. recommended BiOptics. At first I freaked out as I saw how they looked, but hey, if they help me drive why not? So I began to get trained by the Texas Rehab Services in Houston. They recommended 20 hours behind the wheel. I finally completed them and when I took my test in Houston, I PASSED!!! I have a restriction of having my BiOptics on and daytime only, but as soon as I get my reports in I will have to show my doctor that they trained me nights and i did fine so that it can be removed...
I thought It would be impossible to get my license, but "there is hope in Texas" :)
Yes it does require alot of work and it is not easy, it has its ups and downs, but at the end it is all worth it, trust me!
Good-Luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask...
