To any interested: the daytime restriction in IL can be removed by getting a current low vision report (within six months) and sending this to the IL Secretary of State Office Medical Review Unit along with a letter requesting night driving privileges. They review the case and if approved forward the request to the local drivers license examining station who in turn get in touch with you to arrange a night drive test. The test is the standard daytime driving test (deduction points on the test can only total 35-flunk, don't hit the curb on a downhill park, and slow down for railroad tracks and look both ways). If you pass the daytime restriction is immediately removed and $5.00 paid to get a new license. I passed!!!!
