: I have kind of a weird situation. I am 20 and live in ohio and just got my BiOptic on friday. I have 20/60 corrected vision which means i can drive without the BiOptic with a daylight restriction. I got the BiOptic to help me read signs and potentially get an unrestricted license in the future. My problem is that I can't seem to keep my left eye shut and right one open to look through the telescope! Will this get better? I'm afraid that i got this BiOptic and now it won't work for me and I still won't be able to read street signs. Am i just being paranoid?
: Thanks,
: Erin
I don't think this is wierd at all. Any major modification to the field of vision will usually cause temporary problems like you describe. The key word is temporary. I was lucky with my
BiOptic. I adjusted to it quickly. The same goes for my bifocals. However, this kind of thing is quite normal. I strongly suspect that closing the non-BiOptic eye is not a good way to
do it. Instead, you just need to learn to use the one eye when looking through the BiOptic. It might even be possible to use both, kind of like a split screen TV. (I wouldn't know, since my
right eye is quite a bit worse than my left eye).
As someone suggested, consult your low-vision specialist and hang in there. Your body will come around. Try wearing it aruond the house.
