In answer to the question, were there special driving courses, no, but, there were skills which a driver instructor had to assess: my abilities, both with respect to ability to read signs while driving, ability to assess traffic situatiosn and take appropriate action, ability manage the vehicle, and distinguish traffic signals.
Skills were assessed by actual driving in a variety of circumstances.
These were assessed while instruction was provided, but in addition, there were road tests wherein my skills were examined by another driving instructor, occupational therapist, and, finally, a senior driving examiner. In my final test, I had a near perfect score. That was about 40,000 kilometers ago. And that included winter driving, too.
And, I should point out, that there are other BiOptic drivers in Canada, and the number really is growing, albeit slowly.
I hope you understand that Canada does not prohibit driving with BiOptic telescopic spectacles. It only does in those instacnes where there are interuptions in the visual field. And, to me, that is understandable given that unrestricted fileds of vision play a significant role. Each province is likely to have their own experience with BiOptics, ranging from misunderstanding to an appreciation based on experience.
