: : Bravo Marcus!
Thanks, Susan!
: I work for government. I studied for years to get my degree, and
have worked in several positions before I could I could offer the
experience that made me the most competivtive candidtate for the job.
: I work hard for the people who need our services. Why wouldn't I?
What services be these?
: You are free to express your opinion, even if it's at my expense.
What expense? I will assume you are referring to my opinions rather
than Susan's since you aren't addressing what she said.
: People have the right to express their opinions: here's mine:
: the people who slander government staff are the least diplomatic, intolerant types
: who beleive the only rules that should exist are that there should be no rules.
You have to admit, though, that DMV workers aren't exactly known
for their customer service, and the same goes for the IRS.
I don't know of any private business where you have to stand in line
for hours in order to get service. Instead you are more likely to
encounter high pressure salespeople.
: Curiously, most of the prison population beleives the same thing.
Since you brought up prisoners, I would like to point out that
I have heard that many x-cons end up taking the lowest-wage
government jobs because private companies won't hire them.
That seems rather ironic to me.
Besides, you are missing the point. For the most part,
prisoners have proven that they have no regard for other peoples'
rights. That is why they should have their rights taken away
under the law. It is not so much that they have broken the law.
Rules should only be imposed on those who have shown that
they no regard for other people. If someone commits murder,
and it can be shown that they did, then they should have all of
their rights taken away. That is what the law is for.
It should not be a means for collecting revenue. It should
not be a means for the government to impose its will. And it should
not be a means for the government to deny someone their liberty
merely because the government doesn't trust them.
I am quite sure that low vision people contribute very little
to highway injuries/fatalities. If for no other reason than the
fact that their are so few of us who drive. And I am willing to bet
that the reason why most of us don't drive isn't because the
government says that we can't, but because we are too afraid to.
I was very afraid when I started driving with a permit, and if
my friends/family who rode with me showed signs of being nervous,
that made the situation 100 times worse. They didn't quite trust my
ability to drive.
I overcame my fear and their fears as well. Now I know what I
am doing when it comes to driving.
I'm sure that their is fear and a lack of trust on the part of the
government as well. That is why they impose restrictions.
And, as I said before, I am much more aware of what I can do
and what I can't do than anyone else. So, I must trust my own
judgement more than the governments'. And everyone must
do this every time they get behind the wheel.
